Gypsum, Nitric acid, Soda Ash and Coloured Ammonium Sulphate are major by-products.

Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Ltd to tap unused land for revenue – KOCHI: In an effort to get maximum returns from its idling assets, FACT (Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Ltd) authorities are learnt to be exploring the possibilities of executing a slew of measure, including the leasing out of Ambalamedu House, a 50-room guest house owned by the company at Ambalamugal here. The plan, which is still in its initial stages, is for generating maximum revenue from land in possession of the company, major chuck of which remain unused.

    FACT sources said the guest house and the 30-acre island on which it is located may be leased out for running a hotel. The guest house, surrounded by a big lake, can be a major tourist attraction as well as a location for film shoots.A plan to construct a multi-storey building in the two acres owned by FACT near Premier Junction is h also on cards. The corporate office r of FACT may be shifted to the pro , posed building, while the remaia ning space will be leased out for a commercial use.

    “We have to get the govern ment’s approval for implementing d the projects. What we have decided s is to use the land in our possession. But we are yet to chalk out detailed project reports in this regard,” said FACT public relation officer Prabhakaran. “We have unused land along the ICTT road, near Premier Tyres etc in Ernakulam,” he said.

    The new projects will be designed using around Rs 250 crore of the Rs 1,000 crore to be allotted by the Union government. “The loan is being given to us as part of supplementary budget. Both the houses of Parliament have approved the loan of Rs 1,000 crore. It is yet to get the nod from the President of India.Once the President approves it, the Union fertilizer ministry will inform us,” said Prabhakaran.

    There are also plans to sell 150 to 500 acres to BPCL Kochi Refinery .Kerala government also has sought 150 acres for a Infrastructures Kerala Ltd (Inkel) project to start a petcock power plant, using petroleum coke, a byproduct from BPCL Kochi Refinery . But a section of trade unions are against giving the land to Intel.
