Teaching has always held a place of pride in Indian social philosophy. Over the recent years, government has been spending in the social sector which in return has increased the number of teaching jobs.

The pay scale of the government teachers keep on increasing with time. Additionally, the government teachers have a secured future as even after retirement, they avail the benefits of pension.

The government teacher’s job is highly secured with the opportunity of increments. The 7th Pay Commission recommendations have improved the pay scales, and that has provided huge incentives to those looking for a career in teaching.

Additional reasons for choosing teaching as a career could be the aspirants’ interest in the subject, will for a secured professional career and regular annual vacations. It can also be a second career for those who have retired from professional services.

As a profession, teaching is divided into many capacities of specializations, each requiring different skill-sets and employing a different method of training. The selection process for teachers varies from state to state. Most of the State Government’s Education Board conducts mandatory Entrance Examination of Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for recruiting qualified Teachers in Government/Government Aided schools from Class 1 to Class 8.

Bachelor of Education (B. Ed)

Duration: Previously, the duration of B.Ed course was one year but now it has been increased to two years. This course can be pursued full-time or through distance learning.

Eligibility: Aspirant must have done BA (Bachelor of Arts), B.Com (Bachelor of Commerce), B.Sc (Bachelor of Science) or any other graduation level degree from any recognized university or college. Students should have obtained at least 50% marks in graduation level. You can also join B.Ed degree after pursuing a master’s degree.

Scope: After earning B.Ed degree, you will be eligible to get job in secondary and higher secondary schools. In a government school, a trained graduate teacher can earn a salary more than INR 3 Lacs per annum and a post graduate teacher can get a salary of INR 4.5 Lacs per annum.

Pre School Teacher Education Program

Duration: 6 months to 1 year. This course can be pursued full-time or through distance learning.

Eligibility: Aspirant should be at least 10th pass or equivalent in qualification.

Scope: A Preschool Teacher, (but not Special Education) earns an average salary of INR 1.7 Lacs per annum.

Nursery Teacher Education Program

Duration: Most institutes have this course for one year but the duration usually varies from one institute to another. Many institutes provide this program as a part time course.

Eligibility: Aspirant should be at least 12th pass out or equivalent in qualification with minimum 55% marks.

Scope: Depending on the location, initial pay scale of nursery teachers in state run or affiliated schools varies from 7000-10000 per month.

Elementary Teacher Education Program

Duration: This program is necessary to become a teacher at school level. The duration is of 2 years in most institutes but may vary. IGNOU offers distance learning program as well.

Eligibility: Aspirant should be at least 12th pass or equivalent in qualification with minimum 60% marks.

Scope: Average pay for government school elementary class teacher is INR 2.3 Lacs per annum.

Diploma in Education (D.Ed)

Duration: It is a 2 year course. Distance education courses are also there at various colleges of the country

Eligibility: Minimum qualification to apply in D.Ed course is 12th pass or equivalent with minimum 50 % marks.

Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.)

Duration: It is a four year degree program and can be pursued for distance from IGNOU.

Eligibility: 10+2 with minimum 50%

Scope: A teacher in central school teaching primary classes gets a starting pay package of Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 25,000. Starting package in State government schools vary between Rs. 15-20000 per month.

Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed.)

Duration: The course is 3 years long. Certain universities offer B.P.Ed course as a one year program as well.

Eligibility: The pre-requisite for the one-year B.P.Ed course is a graduation in any streams. For pursuing the three-year B.P.Ed course, aspirants should complete the intermediate course from a recognized Board or institute. This course is not available as distance learning.

Scope: Physical Education graduates can expect salary of around INR 10000 per month. The pay scale may vary with experience, area of employment and designations.

Formal training is a must to become a government school teacher. One has to acquire degree/Diploma level education to become a teacher in government schools and colleges. PhD or UGC -NET qualified examination is required for teaching at degree level disciplines. Suggestive courses to become a qualified government teacher are listed below:

  • Pre-Primary Teacher: Diploma of Early childhood care and Education (ECCE)/NTT /equivalents)
  • Elementary Teacher: Diploma of Elementary Teacher Education (ETE/D.Ed/BTC etc.)
  • Secondary Teacher: Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) after BA/B.Com/B.Sc. etc.
  • Senior Secondary Teacher: Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) after MA/M.Com./MSc./equivalents
  • Higher Education: Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D), / National Eligibility Test (NET)/State level eligibility Test (SLET) in any discipline for entry level of College/University Teacher/Lecturer/Asstt. Professor.

An Indian Army Soldier is Protecting Country Border Even After 48 Years of His Death

India is a country of soldiers who sacrifices everything to protect the country from enemies and in the same way Baba Harbhajan Singh did.

Baba Harbhajan Singh (from August 30, 1946 to October 04, 1968) born into a Sikh family in Punjab.

Early Life & Military Career

  • He completed his basic schooling from a village school and then matriculated from DAV High School in Patti in March 1955.
  • In June 1956 he enrolled as a soldier in Amritsar and Joined the Corps of Signals.
  • On 30 June 1965 he was granted a commission and posted to the 14 Rajput Regiment.
  • During Indo-Pak war of 1965 he served as Adjutant of his unit.
  • Later he was transferred to 18 Rajput.

Early Age Death & His Service Beyond Death

Harbhajan Singh was drowned alive in a glacier while trying to carry the supplies to a remote outpost. It was the first casualty of the 23rd Punjab Regiment in that war and hence the search operation was initiated. His body was found after 03 days with the support of his own soul who helped the search party to locate the remains of his body.

Thereafter he gave a hint to his friend in his dream to make and maintain a shrine hi his memory.
