About Gun & Shell Factory 

In 1801, (now the Gun and Shell Factory, known as Kashipur) Kashipur Gun Carriage Agency, was established in Calcutta, and output it the oldest ordnance factory in India is still in existence March 18, 1802 to started.
History and Development of Indian Ordnance Factories is directly associated with British rule in India. England’s East India Company in India for their economic interests and their political hold considered military hardware as vital element to increase. In 1775 the British authorities Fort William, Calcutta accepted Ordnance established. This marks the official beginning of Army Ordnance in India.
In 1787 a gun powder factory in 1791 (at which location Rifle Factory was established in 1904) started the production, which was established in Factory. Kashipur in 1801, Kolkata (currently Gun and Shell Factory, known as Kashipur) on a gun carriage agency was established and production has continued to exist until the date which Ordnance Factories is the first industrial establishment, started from March 18 1802.
